1960 Big Bear Run
Between 1948 and 1962, the Big Bear Run was one of the most prestigious off-road competitions in America. The route led from Lucerne Valley through the Mojave Desert. In January 1960, sixteen-year-old Eddie Mulder entered his Royal Enfield Fury 500 and won the main class, becoming the youngest winner in history. This victory established Royal Enfield in American off-road culture and became the founding moment of the desert sled phenomenon.

A vintage scrambler in modern form
The silhouette of the Bear 650 combines classic scrambler design with the functional details of desert racing machines. It features a higher, flat-profile tank, a wide, straight seat, and a high-mounted dual exhaust along the right side. This is an authentic scrambler shape, not just decoration. Wide off-road handlebars, 19-inch and 17-inch wire-spoked wheels with block-pattern tires, and a TFT display housed in a circular casing add a modern layer to the vintage form.

Twin engine for mixed terrain
The powertrain is an air/oil-cooled 648cc parallel-twin, the same architecture Royal Enfield introduced with the Interceptor in 2018. The Bear features a modified exhaust system for a signature scrambler sound. With 47 horsepower and 56.5 Nm of torque, it delivers the highest torque in the entire 650 range. Off-road, this allows you to ride through sections in a single gear where a single-cylinder engine would require shifting.

Road-focused, gravel-ready
The Bear 650 is a scrambler with a focus on the road. Its primary environment is asphalt, highways, backroads, and alpine serpentines, but with enough capability for gravel paths, forest trails, and dirt roads. It is not a purebred off-road machine like the Himalayan 450. It is a road bike with the ability to keep going where the pavement ends. Perfect for a week-long trip through the Alps or a ride to the cabin on secondary roads.
